István Kapitány files report over Kisfaludy tourism program abuses

István Kapitány has filed a report regarding alleged abuses within the previous government’s Kisfaludy tourism development program. According to Kapitány, an investigation into the program revealed suspicions of breach of trust and anti-competitive agreements that caused significant financial disadvantage.

The Kisfaludy program was originally intended to renovate Hungarian accommodations with 300 billion HUF by 2030. However, the budget expanded to 475 billion HUF by 2026. Kapitány claims that more than half of these funds were distributed through individual decisions rather than open tenders. Furthermore, over three-quarters of the total support is linked to only 1.5 percent of the contracts, with 288 billion HUF awarded to just 108 contracts.

The allegations include patterns of double state financing, suspicious tender tailoring, and the use of public funds for private developments. Specific business circles and individuals, including Lőrinc Mészáros and associates of Sándor Pintér, were mentioned in connection with certain investments. Kapitány stated that efforts will be made to recover any unlawfully obtained public funds.
