István Kapitány outlines Hungary’s economic and EU policy approach

István Kapitány, Hungary’s Minister of Economy and Energy, has outlined the government’s approach to economic and foreign policy, emphasizing a balance between national interests and European Union membership.

Following recent visits to Brussels and Luxembourg, Kapitány stated that while the government will not agree to every EU decision, it will not reject everything either. He noted that the administration aims to represent Hungarian interests while remaining mindful of EU interests, describing the approach as knowing which ‘club’ one belongs to. He highlighted that 16 billion euros in EU funds have been secured since the current government took office.

Kapitány criticized the economic policies of the previous administration, arguing that past investments lacked the necessary scale and timing to contribute effectively to the GDP. He advocated for a business-oriented approach to economic management, prioritizing real deals and economic interests over political conformity or ceremonial gestures.
