István Simicskó criticizes proposed Hungarian pension reforms

KDNP Member of Parliament István Simicskó has criticized potential changes to the Hungarian pension system currently under review by the Tisza government. The government is examining whether the 13th and 14th month pensions should be differentiated based on need, rather than being distributed proportionally to an individual's pension amount.

Simicskó argued that such a shift would fundamentally alter the logic of the pension system, which is based on decades of work, service time, and paid contributions. He emphasized that while supporting those in need is an important state task, it should be handled through targeted social measures rather than undermining the insurance-based principle of the pension system. He called for clarity on how and when these changes would be implemented and who would be negatively affected.
