István Vajda, prominent Hungarian dubbing director, dies at 84

István Vajda, a prominent Hungarian dubbing and audio drama director, has passed away at the age of 84. A recipient of the Balázs Béla Award and a lifetime achievement award for his work in dubbing, Vajda was considered a key figure during the golden age of Hungarian dubbing.

Throughout his career, Vajda directed the Hungarian versions of more than one thousand films, series, and animations. His notable work includes the dubbing of films such as ‘Sweet Life’, ‘The Seventh Seal’, and ‘Mephisto’. He also contributed significantly to the musical and sound landscapes of animated works, including the sound design for the internationally successful ‘Fehérlófia’ and the animated film ‘Vitéz’.

In addition to his film work, Vajda served as a director at Magyar Rádió, where he produced over 140 audio plays, adaptations, and documentaries. He was also a playwright, known for the play ‘Pedig én jó anya voltam’, which has been performed continuously since 2007.
