István Verebes critiques Hungarian theater and former show ‘Heti Hetes’
István Verebes, the award-winning Hungarian actor and director, has shared his reflections on the current state of Hungarian culture and his former television career while living in retirement in Zala.
Regarding the former RTL satirical program ‘Heti Hetes’, Verebes stated that the show’s success was heavily dependent on the political climate of the time. He remarked that without the presence and politics of Viktor Orbán, the program would have likely failed within three weeks, suggesting that the political situation provided constant material for the production.
Verebes also expressed criticism regarding the current Hungarian theatrical landscape, noting a lack of professional community and ethical functioning. He mentioned that he is cautiously considering the launch of a platform for expressing opinions to encourage moderate thinking in an era of dense and overwhelming public discourse.
