Isuzu and Volkswagen issue vehicle safety recalls in Southern Africa
Multiple automotive manufacturers have issued safety recalls in Southern Africa. In Zambia, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) announced a voluntary recall of Isuzu RG19 vehicles. The recall, initiated by Isuzu Motors South Africa, affects models sold between May 11, 2026, and July 3, 2026. The issue involves a potential defect in the brake pedal pivot pin that could cause lateral movement, making it difficult for drivers to fully depress the pedal and potentially reducing braking performance. No injuries have been reported.
In South Africa, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced a recall for 291 Volkswagen Amarok double-cab bakkies sold between June 2, 2026, and September 15, 2026. The defect involves the curtain airbag, which may deploy incompletely during collisions due to contact with an interior component. Additionally, sharp-edged plastic elements could detach or remain in the head and neck contact zone, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.
