Isuzu faces slow Australian truck sales amid South African plant investment

The Australian truck and van market experienced a slowdown in the third quarter of 2026. According to the Truck Industry Council’s T-Mark database, total sales for the quarter reached 9,707 vehicles, a 14.8 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2025. The Medium Duty segment saw the most significant decline, with year-to-date sales down 31.7 percent.

In South Africa, Isuzu Motors South Africa has invested approximately R30 million into its Gqeberha commercial vehicle assembly plant. The capital is being used to upgrade chassis and engine sub-assembly areas, improve production efficiency, and enhance quality control through digital traceability. The investment also includes new equipment designed to improve employee safety, ergonomics, and energy efficiency during the manufacturing process.
