Itó Bisonó linked to potential 2028 Dominican vice-presidential candidacy

During a recent discussion in Upper Manhattan involving professionals, politicians, and business leaders, speculation arose regarding the future of Dominican politics. Participants suggested that Itó Bisonó could serve as the vice-presidential candidate for Luis Abinader, accompanying David Collado as the PRM presidential candidate in 2028.

Bisonó has a significant political history, having served four terms as a deputy and held high-ranking positions during the Balaguer administration. After previously seeking the presidency in 2011 and 2019, he joined the PRM to support Abinader in 2020. During Abinader’s six-year tenure, Bisonó has led three key ministries: Industry, Commerce and MSMEs; Housing, Habitat and Buildings; and Foreign Affairs.

Separately, allegations of a major corruption scheme have surfaced. Analyst Julio Martínez Pozo reported that goods valued at billions of pesos, declared for international transit to Haiti, are allegedly being diverted and sold within the Dominican Republic without proper sanitary registrations. Some of these re-packaged products reportedly end up in local supermarkets.
