The rise of AI introduces new complexities to storage needs. Different phases of the AI lifecycle, such as long-term compliance archiving versus high-performance requirements for training checkpoints, necessitate varied storage solutions. Using high-performance storage for long-term archiving is often inefficient.

Simultaneously, the tech industry is grappling with ‘tokenmaxxing,’ a term used to describe either maximizing token consumption as a proxy for AI adoption or optimizing output per token for efficiency. Experts warn that using token consumption as a productivity metric is flawed, as it rewards noisy, inefficient workflows over concise, high-quality output, similar to the historical pitfalls of measuring developer productivity by lines of code.
