IT-Wallet expands digital documents and gains first private verifier

The IT-Wallet ecosystem is expanding its digital document offerings via the IO app. Following the integration of driver's licenses and health cards, new documents such as digital electoral cards, ISEE certificates, and health suitability booklets are expected to be added by the end of the year. This expansion aims to simplify interactions with public administration and reduce the need for physical documentation.

In a related development for the digital identity infrastructure, Intesa has become the first accredited private verifier for the IT-Wallet federation. Working alongside the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, Intesa will be responsible for verifying the authenticity and origin of electronic certificates. This role involves providing the infrastructure to validate attributes like age, residency, and professional qualifications.

These advancements align with the European eIDAS2 regulatory framework, which mandates the acceptance of the digital wallet for strong identification and authentication in private sector activities starting December 24, 2027. The implementation will impact various sectors, including banking, insurance, telecommunications, energy, transport, healthcare, and education.
