Itaú Unibanco acquires 35% stake in Prisma Capital

Itaú Unibanco is acquiring a 35% stake in the Brazilian alternative asset manager Prisma Capital through the issuance of preferred shares. The transaction is structured as a primary capital increase, meaning the funds will be injected directly into Prisma Capital’s cash reserves.

Prisma Capital, founded in 2017 by João Mendes, Lucas Canhoto, and Marcelo Hallack, currently manages approximately R$ 28 billion. The firm specializes in alternative investments, including structured credit, private equity, real estate, and litigation financing. Following the deal, the original founders will retain a 65% majority stake and continue to lead the business.

The capital injection is intended to accelerate strategic initiatives, such as building and acquiring platforms to originate assets for managed funds and increasing investment capacity for client co-investments. The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals, including those from the Central Bank of Brazil and CADE.
