Itaú Unibanco reports BRL 12.4 billion Q2 net income
Itaú Unibanco reported a recurring net income of BRL 12.4 billion for the second quarter of 2026, marking a 7.8% increase from the previous year. The bank's consolidated return on equity (ROE) reached 24.3%, with Brazil-specific ROE at 25.7%.
The bank's total loan portfolio reached BRL 1.522 trillion, driven by growth in various segments including large companies and mortgage lending. Mortgage lending specifically rose 13.3% year-over-year to BRL 152 billion. CEO Milton Maluhy Filho noted that the bank is prioritizing private payroll products over traditional unsecured personal lending.
On the investment front, Bank of America Corp DE significantly increased its position in Itaú Unibanco by 155.5% during the first quarter, holding over 10.5 million shares valued at approximately $88.18 million. Other institutional investors, including Daiwa Securities Group Inc and Franklin Resources Inc, also reported increased stakes in the company.
