Itaú Unibanco acquires AI startup NeoSpace for R$ 2.9 billion

Itaú Unibanco has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of NeoSpace A.I. Technologies, a Brazilian startup specializing in foundational data models, for R$ 2.925 billion. The transaction, which is subject to approval from the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) and the Central Bank, will be paid in installments, with the final portion distributed over five years.

The acquisition deepens a partnership that began nearly two years ago. NeoSpace has already been providing services to Itaú, utilizing models trained on the bank's own data to enable generative artificial intelligence for credit analysis, customer relationship management (CRM), and fraud prevention. The technology is also expected to enhance the bank's generative AI assistant, ‘ia. i’, by providing more personalized and contextualized financial solutions.

NeoSpace will maintain its operational autonomy and existing team, with founder Bruno Pierobon remaining as CEO. Itaú aims to use this acquisition to strengthen its proprietary AI capabilities and accelerate the development of specialized tools for the global financial industry.
