Itaberaba selected for federal accessible medical transport program

The municipality of Itaberaba has been selected to receive an accessible minibus through the Caminhos da Saúde program, a federal initiative coordinated by the Ministry of Health. The vehicle is intended to transport patients treated by the Unified Health System (SUS) for scheduled appointments, exams, surgeries, and specialized treatments such as radiotherapy and hemodialysis.

The minibus has a capacity for 29 patients plus a driver and is equipped with an accessibility elevator. It is specifically designed for intercity routes with high demand to reduce the difficulties patients face when seeking specialized care in other cities. This program is part of the Agora Tem Especialistas initiative, which aims to decrease appointment no-shows caused by inadequate transportation.

In this initial stage, the Ministry of Health announced the procurement of 3,300 vehicles nationwide, including 800 ambulances, 1,000 accessible vans, and 1,500 minibuses. While Itaberaba is officially listed as a beneficiary, the specific delivery date and the exact routes to be served have not yet been disclosed.
