Itaboraí and Ilhéus boost municipal waste collection services

The municipal sanitation agency Conserlimpi in Itaboraí, Brazil, renewed its campaign urging residents to dispose of debris, furniture and appliances through official channels and to use its free scheduled pickup service. Agency head Hédio Mataruna said proper disposal prevents environmental damage, pest infestations, clogged sewers and flood risk.

In Ilhéus, the city government carried out a large‑scale cleanup mutirão across dozens of neighborhoods, deploying excavators, loaders, compactors and over twenty‑four‑hour bins. The effort, coordinated with the CVR landfill, responded to a surge in waste after recent holidays, a World Cup match and a one‑day collection suspension, and removed more than 1,100 hundred‑liter bags in a single district.

Both initiatives aim to improve urban cleanliness, reduce health hazards and restore normal waste‑management services for local communities.
