Itaboraí launches free capoeira workshops and community bike ride

The municipality of Itaboraí hosted a capoeira gathering on Saturday, 18 July, at Praça Marechal Floriano Peixoto. Organized by the city’s Casa de Cultura Heloísa Alberto Torres and supported by the municipal tourism office, the event featured a traditional rope‑exchange ceremony, awarding new grades to about 30 participants, and announced the opening of additional free capoeira workshops. Subsecretary of Culture Alan Mota said the meeting strengthens Afro‑Brazilian culture, promotes social inclusion and encourages community engagement.

Later in the week, the city’s sports department opened registrations for a free 32‑kilometre bike ride called “Pedal Vivendo a Transformação”. The 26 July ride began at 6:30 a.m. from the same square and followed a route to the Parque Natural Municipal Paleontológico de São José de Itaboraí, highlighting local natural heritage. The first 2,000 registrants received an exclusive event shirt. Organizers framed the ride as a health‑promoting, non‑competitive activity intended to foster cycling as a mobility option and to bring residents together in a shared outdoor experience.
