Itabuna civic parade to celebrate Northeast Brazilian culture

The city of Itabuna, located in southern Bahia, will host a civic parade on September 7 to celebrate Brazil's Independence Day. This year's theme is ‘Viva o Nordeste, Coração do Brasil!’ (Long Live the Northeast, the Heart of Brazil!).

Organized by the Municipal Secretariat of Education, the event aims to connect students with the cultural and historical heritage of the Northeast region. The parade will feature thematic wings representing the nine states of the Northeast: Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, and Sergipe.

Participants will showcase various regional aspects, including history, resistance, culinary traditions, popular culture, cordel literature, and music. The program will also honor significant historical and cultural figures such as Ariano Suassuna, Jorge Amado, Luiz Gonzaga, and Maria da Penha, while highlighting traditional elements like xilogravura and instruments such as the accordion, triangle, and zabumba.
