Itabuna expands access to small surgeries at Policlínica Municipal 2 de Julho
The Policlínica Municipal 2 de Julho in Itabuna is expanding access to small surgeries and specialized ambulatory procedures. The facility, located in the Góes Calmon neighborhood, serves patients from Itabuna and other municipalities within the Unified Health System (SUS) who require low-complexity interventions that do not necessitate traditional hospital hospitalization.
The surgical center performs an average of 20 procedures per week, including soft tissue and skin lesion biopsies, and the removal of lipomas, cysts, and nodules. The unit operates Monday through Friday with a multidisciplinary team including general surgeons, head and neck surgeons, clinical oncologists, and dermatological oncologists.
According to municipal health officials, this service aims to reduce patient waiting times and increase the efficiency of the local health network. By handling minor procedures, the clinic allows the Hospital de Base Luís Eduardo Magalhães (HBLEM) to focus its resources on high-complexity and urgent medical cases.
