Brazil's Ministry of Health launches nationwide hospital and radiotherapy upgrades

The Federal Ministry of Health, together with state governments, inaugurated a series of health‑care facilities across Brazil. In Porto Alegre, Minister Alexandre Padilha opened the first regional base of the SUS National Force and a new intelligent ICU, part of a plan to establish eight regional hubs by 2027 and to strengthen response to climate‑related disasters and epidemics. In the western part of Bahia, Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues inaugurated a R$ 9.8 million radiotherapy unit at the Hospital do Oeste, expanding high‑complexity cancer treatment and reducing patient travel. The state also approved a R$ 62 million expansion of the hospital’s capacity to 360 beds. In Itabuna, Santa Casa received 42 refurbished beds and a new ambulatory unit, while the Hospital de Base Luís Eduardo Magalhães added a ten‑consultancy ambulatory. Santa Catarina’s CEPON added 16 oncology beds, increasing its capacity by 25 %. Goiás saw the start of a new basic health unit in Itumbiara and a psychosocial care centre in Anápolis, plus a mobile women’s‑health unit serving dozens of municipalities. Collectively, the projects represent over R$ 30 billion in public health investment aimed at decentralising specialised care, improving emergency readiness and expanding access to modern diagnostics and treatment throughout the country.
