Itajaí becomes Brazil's leading importer, surpassing major metropolises
The municipality of Itajaí, in the state of Santa Catarina, has emerged as Brazil's leading importer, surpassing major metropolises such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, and Manaus.
According to data from Comex Stat, Itajaí recorded US$ 9.1 billion in imports during the first half of the year, representing a 12.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This volume accounts for 6.4% of all Brazilian imports. China is the primary source of these goods, supplying 41.6% (US$ 3.79 billion) of the total, followed by Germany, the United States, Chile, and Argentina.
In addition to its import leadership, Itajaí remains a significant exporter, ranking 5th in Brazil with US$ 3.3 billion in exports during the first half of the year.
