Italian accountants report: membership down, incomes up in 2025

The 2025 annual report of the Fondazione Nazionale dei Commercialisti shows a slight contraction in the profession. Total registered accountants fell by 0.8% to 119,050, with new registrations dropping to 1,494. The decline is more pronounced in the South (-1.3%) than in the North (-0.2%). Despite the membership loss, average professional income rose 8.3% to €87,376 and median income increased 5.5% to €48,420, with the strongest gains in the South (+8.8%). Societies of professionals grew 9.3% to 2,142 entities, and the number of trainees (STP) rose 4.2% to 11,507.

At the Assembly of Presidents, the national council president highlighted the profession’s resilience, noting that income growth outpaced GDP and that the sector is shifting toward higher‑value consultancy and specialization. Membership decline remains limited (about 1% overall), while the increase in trainees signals renewed attraction for younger professionals.
