Italian accountants eye shift toward strategic consulting

A survey conducted by the tech company Fiscozen among 1,118 Italian accountants reveals a significant shift in the perception and future direction of the profession. According to the data, 86% of respondents believe the value of their profession is currently undervalued, a factor contributing to low attractiveness for young graduates.

While 37% of accountants currently identify primarily as tax technicians and 30% as intermediaries between taxpayers and the state, there is a projected paradigm shift. Within the next five years, 50% of professionals expect their role to evolve into that of a strategic consultant, while only 7% believe they will remain primarily technical.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence is viewed as a key driver for this evolution, allowing professionals to move away from repetitive bureaucratic tasks and toward high-value advisory roles. However, 60% of those surveyed noted that their work has become more complex and bureaucratic over the last five years.
