Italian Adventurer Completes Solo Atlantic Row and 810 km Cycling Journey

Lorenzo Barone, a 28‑year‑old Italian explorer, reached Kourou in French Guiana on 24‑25 January 2026 after rowing 4,557 km across the Atlantic in a self‑built yellow plywood boat. The 37‑day, 48‑hour journey was completed without sails, engine or onboard crew, relying solely on oars, solar‑powered equipment and satellite tracking.

In a separate feat, four cyclists from the Nuoto Master Luino club—Lorenzo Sciangula, Fabrizio Riva, Andrea Bosco and Filippo Franceschi—rode 810 km along the historic Via Francigena from Luino to Rome in seven days. Despite temperatures reaching 45 °C and 8,000 m of elevation gain, they finished the route through five Italian regions, concluding at St Peter’s Square.

Both achievements were documented on social media to highlight personal perseverance and promote their hometowns.
