Italian agricultural groups seek aid for drought and beekeeping crises

Agricultural organizations in Italy are calling for urgent economic interventions to address sector-specific challenges. In the Cuneo region, Coldiretti has formally requested the convocation of the ‘Tavolo Verde’ to discuss the impact of severe drought. The organization reported significant production damage and a decline in business income, urging the regional government to recognize a state of natural calamity and invest in modernizing water networks to prevent future emergencies.

Simultaneously, the Italian Beekeepers Federation (Fai), Miele in Cooperativa (Mic), and the National Union of Italian Beekeepers Associations (Unaapi) have submitted a joint note to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (Masaf). They are seeking structural economic support through the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The groups propose a coupled income support mechanism for beekeeping to mitigate the effects of extreme weather events, such as drought and late frosts, which have caused permanent pressure on profit margins within the sector.
