Italian agritourism sees 85% growth in farm stays over ten years

Agritourism in Italy is experiencing significant growth, with nights spent in farm stays increasing by 85% over the last decade. According to analysis by Coldiretti and Campagna Amica, the sector is driven by sustainability, digital innovation, and experiential tourism, including specialized offerings like wine, beer, oil, and cheese tourism.

International demand is a primary driver, with foreign stays increasing by 119% over the past ten years. Foreign visitors now account for over 60% of presences. While traditional markets like the United States have seen record growth, new markets are emerging from South Korea, Brazil, China, and India. Projections suggest 2026 could set a new record for the industry, surpassing the 2025 figures of 5.1 million arrivals.

In specific regions like Ancona, the season is showing positive trends with increasing numbers of tourists from Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, England, and Poland. Local operators, such as Terranostra Ancona, are calling for efforts to extend the tourism season to at least eight months and to improve transport links between coastal areas and the hinterland to better capture international flows.
