Italian Air Force conducts emergency medical flight from Lampedusa to Palermo

The Italian Air Force conducted an emergency medical flight on September 20, 2026, to transport a 58-year-old man in imminent danger of death from Lampedusa to Palermo.

The patient, who was receiving care at the Lampedusa Territorial Emergency Point, required immediate specialized treatment at the Civico Hospital in Palermo. The request for assistance was issued by the Prefecture of Agrigento and managed by the Air Force Command's Situation Room. The flight was authorized and coordinated by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

A Gulfstream G650 aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino flew from Rome to Lampedusa, picked up the patient, and departed for Palermo at 07:43. The aircraft landed in Palermo at 08:21, where the patient was transferred by ambulance to the hospital.
