Italian Air Force conducts emergency medical flights for infants
The Italian Air Force’s 31st Wing conducted two urgent medical transport missions to deliver critically ill infants to the Gaslini Pediatric Hospital in Genoa.
The first mission involved transporting a child in immediate danger of life from Lamezia Terme in Calabria. This operation was coordinated through the Prefecture of Catanzaro and involved the Italian Red Cross Crotone Committee.
The second mission required the Gulfstream G650 aircraft to fly from Genoa to Alghero, Sardinia, following a request from the Prefecture of Sassari. A newborn from the Sassari University Hospital was transported in a thermal incubator alongside a medical team.
These emergency flights were authorized by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which coordinates the state aircraft fleet for such humanitarian purposes.
