Italy conducts multiple emergency rescues: helicopter saves hiker in Zingaro, police aid woman on Palmi beach

On 5 August 2026, an 82nd Centre Search and Rescue helicopter of the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) was dispatched from Trapani to the Zingaro Nature Reserve after a 43‑year‑old hiker suffered a serious injury during a trek. Working with the Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico Siciliano, the crew winched the victim to safety and transferred her by air to the Sant’Antonio Abate Hospital in Trapani for specialist care.

In a separate incident at Palmi beach, two off‑duty police officers from the Gioia Tauro precinct responded to a woman who collapsed from sudden illness while returning to shore. The officers performed first‑aid measures, placed her in an anti‑shock position and called emergency services. She was subsequently taken to hospital, where her condition stabilized, and later thanked the officers in a written note.
