Italian American leaders meet in Rome to discuss citizenship

A delegation from the Conference of Presidents of Major Italian American Organizations (COPOMIAO) met with senior Italian and U.S. officials in Rome to strengthen ties between Italian Americans and Italy.

Led by COPOMIAO President Basil Russo and U.S. Representative Michael Rulli, the group met with Lorenzo Fontana, president of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies. Key topics of discussion included advocating for greater access to Italian dual citizenship, addressing Italy’s declining population, and exploring opportunities for younger generations through initiatives like the ‘Future Leaders’ fellowship.

The meetings aimed to address the interests of descendants of Italian immigrants and maintain cultural connections to their ancestral homeland.
