Italian animal rights groups protest hunting law amendment and puppy deaths

Over 24 environmental and animal organisations, joined by former MEP Licia Colò, plan a sit‑in in Verona’s Piazza dei Signori on 24 July to oppose DDL 1552, a bill that would amend Italy’s 1992 wildlife‑protection law and hunting quotas. The demonstrators say the changes could damage wildlife and biodiversity.

In Sciacca, Sicily, the death of four puppies left on a terrace prompted a separate demonstration on 25 July organised by local animal activist Enrico Rizzi and groups such as Europa Verde. The municipal council has not formally joined the event, but the protest calls for a sober gathering to condemn animal cruelty while supporting ongoing animal‑welfare efforts.
