Dolomiti Superski to pay 30 million euros in skier refunds after antitrust settlement
The Italian Antitrust Authority (AGCM) has closed its investigation into Federconsorzio Dolomiti Superski and 12 associated valley consortia regarding potential restrictions on competition. The probe focused on centralized price-setting for skipasses and restrictions on third-party distribution. To settle the matter without sanctions, the group has agreed to statutory changes to prevent future price and distribution coordination.
As part of the settlement, a 30 million euro compensation package has been established for skiers who purchased valley skipasses (daily or multi-day) during the 2022/2023, 2023/2024, and 2024/2025 seasons. Consumers can choose between a 30% discount voucher for future purchases (totaling 18 million euros) or a 20% direct cash refund (totaling 12 million euros). Applications for these remedies will open on October 15 via a dedicated online portal.
Additionally, the consortia have committed to stabilizing Super Skipass promotions for the next five winter seasons, a measure valued at approximately 20 million euros. While consumer groups like Consumerismo No Profit have responded positively, the association Assoutenti criticized the deal, claiming the refunds are inadequate and that the system penalizes those choosing cash over vouchers.
