Italian Army defuses unexploded ordnance near Passo del Tonale
Specialized military units have completed a complex operation to secure and defuse three pieces of unexploded ordnance with special loading near Passo del Tonale in the Ponte di Legno area.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the 10th Engineer Regiment of the 132nd Armored Brigade “Ariete” and a specialized unit from the Interforce NBC Logistic Technical Center (CETLI NBC) of Civitavecchia. The CETLI NBC experts performed technical verifications on the artillery shells to determine their specific loading types before proceeding with demilitarization.
To ensure maximum safety, authorities established a security perimeter with a radius of 1,235 meters and a temporary no-fly zone within a 958-meter radius. The mission was coordinated by the Prefecture of Brescia and the Northern Territorial Command of the Army, with support from the Italian Red Cross, Carabinieri, and Guardia di Finanza.
