Italian Army safely disposes WWII bomb in Laureana di Borrello
A 250‑lb WWII aerial bomb was discovered on private land in Laureana di Borrello, Italy. The 21st Engineer Regiment of the Italian Army carried out a controlled disarmament and subsequent detonation at a secure site in the neighbouring municipality of Feroleto della Chiesa.
Roads, including a section of the A2 highway, were closed from 01:00 to 07:00 on 19 July while residents were evacuated and alternative routes were provided. Coordinating authorities – the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria, local mayors, police, fire services and civil‑protection agencies – oversaw the operation. The disposal was completed at 09:20 with the area cleared and traffic reopened, and officials praised the joint effort and the professionalism of the army specialists.
