Italian artists explore memory through music and light

In Italy, new cultural works are exploring the intersections of memory, space, and sensory perception.

Tuscan pianist and composer Andrea Garibaldi has released ‘Le Silerchie’ (Dodicilune, 2026). The solo piano album is a sonic exploration of his childhood home and personal history, drawing connections between lived experience and imagination. Garibaldi describes the work as a continuous process of association, where the music remains deeply linked to the locations and people that shaped his musical formation.

In Piedmont, artist Gaia De Megni is presenting her first solo exhibition, ‘La Scia’, at the Société Interludio gallery in Cambiano. Curated by Vincenzo Estremo, the installation uses light and architecture to strip cinema of its narrative elements, focusing instead on projection, voice, body, and costume. The exhibition utilizes intense light and darkness to engage the visitor's physical perception and memory, moving away from traditional screen-based imagery.
