Italian Association Con Andreae Opens New Maternity Hospital in Chad

The Gavirate‑based nonprofit Con Andreae, founded in 2011 after the death of a young Andrea, transformed community grief into concrete solidarity projects. One of its flagship initiatives is a modern maternity hospital built in Deressia, Chad, named after Maria, Stella del Mattino. The facility was erected in just seven months with the help of hundreds of donors and Sister Raffaella, and it now provides dignified childbirth services in a region with high infant‑mortality rates. Since opening, dozens of babies have been born there, offering hope to local families.

The project exemplifies how an Italian civil‑society group can generate international health impact through grassroots fundraising and volunteer effort.
