Italian athletes excel in Mediterranean Games and regional championships

Italian athletes are achieving significant success in international competitions, highlighted by Benedetta Pilato’s performance at the XX Mediterranean Games. Competing in Taranto, Pilato won the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:05.82, setting a new Mediterranean Games record. She was followed by fellow Italian Lisa Angiolini, who took the silver medal.

In the Emilia-Romagna region, local authorities are emphasizing the area's role as an international sports hub. Regional Councilor for Tourism and Sport, Roberta Frisoni, noted the success of regional athletes in recent European championships in athletics, swimming, and gymnastics, attributing these achievements to a robust network of clubs, technical staff, and social infrastructure.
