Italian athletes secure medals in Mediterranean Games and European Athletics

Italian athletes have achieved notable success in recent international competitions. Paolo De Pasquale, a physical education teacher from Fossano, won a bronze medal in fin swimming during the first day of the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto. Fipsas President Giacomo Pellegrino commended De Pasquale’s growth and contribution to the Italian team's medal count.

In another sporting achievement, race walker Sofia Fiorini has been awarded the Pegaso dello Sport by the Tuscany Region. The 22-year-old from Casentino earned a gold medal in the race walking marathon at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. Tuscany President Eugenio Giani announced that a ceremony will be held in September at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati to honor Fiorini and other regional athletes for their continental successes.
