Italian authorities and schools respond to student protests
Law enforcement agencies in Bergamo, including the State Police, Carabinieri, and Guardia di Finanza, identified 30 minors during operations aimed at preventing illicit conduct during student gatherings. During the demonstrations, participants reportedly threw bottles, firecrackers, and trash. Some youths were found in possession of masks and balaclavas. In Treviglio, two minors were reported for damaging a vehicle window and committing theft at a supermarket.
In Ariano Irpino, controversy has arisen following a directive from the Polo Liceale regarding collective absences linked to student protests in Avellino and across Italy. The school administration classified participation in the demonstrations as unjustified absences. Under new extraordinary procedures, parents must personally visit the school with identification to sign paper forms, though absences remain formally recorded as unjustified in electronic registers. The school also warned that these absences could impact conduct grades and state exam credits. Local officials have criticized the measure as a pedagogical contradiction regarding the right to peaceful assembly.
