Italian authorities arrest individuals in separate theft and fraud cases

In Miglianico, a 26-year-old and a 52-year-old have been placed under house arrest following a theft and unauthorized use of bank cards. The incident occurred on June 21, 2026, when a couple's bag was stolen from their parked car at a local restaurant. The thieves used stolen Postepay cards to make purchases and withdrawals totaling over 1,500 euros. Carabinieri investigators identified the suspects by analyzing public and private surveillance footage from the crime scene and transaction locations.

In a separate incident, the Bologna Highway Police detained a 47-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman traveling on the A1 motorway. The pair, from the Sassuolo area, were found in possession of gold jewelry they could not account for and falsified identification documents. Authorities suspect the jewelry may have been stolen from elderly victims using the ‘fake marshal’ scam. The man was specifically found with a tampered electronic identity card lacking a microchip, a method used to create fraudulent identities.
