Italian authorities conduct food safety inspections and seizures

Italian authorities have conducted several food safety inspections, resulting in fines, seizures, and business closures.

In Monfalcone, local police fined a neighborhood grocery store 1,600 euros for failing to display prices and lacking mandatory information regarding the name and origin of fruit and vegetable products. Since the beginning of the year, the local police have conducted 19 inspections, identifying 49 administrative violations totaling 41,200 euros. These inspections also led to the seizure of 622 food products lacking Italian-language labeling and 45 kilograms of food without necessary traceability documentation.

In Salerno, municipal police and health authorities seized approximately 150 kilograms of expired or improperly stored food, including meat, fish, pasta, fruit, and vegetables, at a restaurant near Lungomare Colombo. The inspection, triggered by a report, revealed serious hygienic-sanitary deficiencies. Consequently, the establishment has been ordered to close pending further compliance and verification. Authorities also noted the illegal occupation of approximately 160 square meters of public space during the same intervention.
