Italian authorities dismantle marijuana plantations in Calabria and Sardinia
Italian authorities have dismantled significant marijuana production sites in two separate operations. In Calabria, the Carabinieri discovered five plantations hidden within the rugged Aspromonte and Preserre forests. The operation, supported by helicopter units, uncovered over 1,000 plants, some exceeding two meters in height, utilizing both manual and automated irrigation systems. The potential market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be over one million euros. Two individuals were arrested in Platì during the intervention.
In a separate incident in Sardinia, the State Police uncovered a large-scale cannabis greenhouse in the rural area of Assemini, near Cagliari. Investigators seized 47 kg of marijuana from the site. The operation resulted in the arrest of two men, aged 54 and 58, after police observed frequent activity at the property.
