Italian authorities intercept drivers with drugs, alcohol, and weapons
Law enforcement agencies in Italy have conducted several operations targeting driving violations involving alcohol, drugs, and weapons.
In the Fermo region, Carabinieri conducted widespread checks across Fermo, Porto Sant'Elpidio, Porto San Giorgio, and Monte Urano. The operations resulted in multiple citations, including a 36-year-old driver found with a blood alcohol content nearly four times the legal limit. In another incident, a 22-year-old was caught driving without a license while a passenger was found to have a speargun in the vehicle's trunk. Other violations included a driver refusing alcohol tests and the discovery of knives during vehicle searches.
In Ciampino, local police intercepted a tour bus driver before a school trip involving approximately 50 elementary students could depart for Fiumicino. The 40-year-old driver tested positive for cocaine and had a blood alcohol level exceeding 0.9 g/l, violating the zero-tolerance policy for professional drivers. The driver was reported to the Velletri Public Prosecutor's Office, and his license was revoked. A replacement driver was provided to ensure the students reached their destination.
