Italian authorities move to secure abandoned public buildings

Authorities in Italy are implementing measures to prevent the illegal occupation and vandalism of abandoned public buildings. In Modena, local police and municipal technicians conducted a joint operation at a former nursery on via Agnini. Following an earlier eviction in early August, workers and waste management personnel cleared the site, and technicians are currently sealing all doors and windows to prevent further unauthorized entries.

In Imola, Con. Ami has contracted Axitea Spa to provide security monitoring and patrolling for the Osservanza complex on via Franco Basaglia. The service, funded by PNRR resources, targets the Innovation Park area, where several buildings remain vacant and lack continuous surveillance. The contract, which runs through December 2026, aims to protect these properties from vandalism and occupation while the site undergoes development.
