Italian authorities report separate extortion and fraud incidents

Italian law enforcement has addressed two distinct criminal incidents involving extortion and fraud.

In Chieti, a 46-year-old woman from Piedmont has been sent to trial on charges of attempted extortion and the illicit dissemination of sexually explicit images, commonly known as revenge porn. The case began after the woman, using a pseudonym, exchanged intimate content with a 50-year-old man via a dating platform and WhatsApp. According to investigators, she subsequently demanded 1,000 euros to prevent the images from being released. When the man refused to pay, the images were published on a dating website. The victim reported the incident to the Carabinieri, leading to the woman's identification.

In Cecina, an elderly woman successfully thwarted an attempted fraud by a man posing as a Carabinieri officer. The suspect attempted to pressure the woman into making an instant bank transfer of over 14,000 euros. After the victim expressed suspicion regarding the urgency and the nature of the request, the suspect allegedly used intimidation tactics, threatening organized crime repercussions. Following the woman's report to emergency services, investigators traced the money flow and identified a 45-year-old man from Campania, who has since been reported to the authorities.
