Italian authorities seize 3.2 million euros in Naples mafia raid
Italian anti-mafia authorities conducted a dawn raid in Caivano, near Naples, seizing 3.2 million euros in cash hidden within the walls, floors, and furniture of an apartment. The operation, part of a multi-month undercover investigation led by anti-mafia prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, resulted in the arrest of 34 individuals.
Law enforcement officials reported that the cash, consisting of 50-euro notes wrapped in cellophane, was found in organized stacks beneath floor tiles, inside walls, and in hidden compartments within furniture. In addition to the currency, police seized 11 luxury Rolex watches, various firearms including Kalashnikov-type rifles and pistols, and items used for drug trafficking.
The suspects are believed to be members of the Angelino clan, an organized crime group that has exerted significant influence over Caivano, leading the local government to be placed under judicial administration last year. The investigation also involved intercepting smuggled mobile phones used by incarcerated mafia members to communicate with the outside world.
