Italian authorities seize illegal camping resort in Gallipoli, Salento

The naval unit of the Guardia di Finanza in Gallipoli, coordinated with the aeronautical unit of Bari, seized an illegal camping resort at Padula Bianca, a coastal area of the municipality of Gallipoli in the Salento region. The site covered about 8,000 m² and had been equipped with a bar, toilets, showers, a laundry facility and a large parking area for cars and campers, all built without any required permits.

Two individuals were referred to the judicial authority for violations of the Cultural Heritage and Landscape Code and the Consolidated Building Code. The operation aims to halt unlawful tourism activities on land adjoining the maritime public domain, protect the environmentally sensitive coastline, and prevent unfair competition for local tourism operators. Further investigations are underway to determine the amount of administrative and fiscal sanctions to be imposed.
