Italian authorities seize illegal fish traps and shut down illicit dump site in Campania

The Coast Guard on Ischia, coordinated with the Maritime Directorate of Naples, confiscated about 120 illegal fish traps placed inside the protected marine zone of Regno di Nettuno near Capo Grosso. The operation removed the gear and reinforced protection of the sensitive habitat.

In a separate inspection in Eboli, Carabinieri Forestali and environmental guards acted after spotting a large colony of protected starlings (gruccioni). Their presence led to the discovery of an unlicensed waste‑dumping operation covering roughly 5,000 m², containing sand, soil and 70‑80 m³ of mixed waste. The entire area was seized and the owner was charged with urban‑planning violations, illegal waste management and damage to wildlife nests.
