Italian authorities seize illegal waste sites in Randazzo and Caserta
Law enforcement agencies in Italy have uncovered two significant illegal waste disposal operations during recent environmental inspections.
In Randazzo, Carabinieri officers discovered an unauthorized landfill on agricultural land owned by a 73-year-old man. The site contained 16 abandoned, non-functional vehicles in poor condition, some reduced to carcasses, along with several truck containers and piles of ferrous material and car parts scattered across the property. The owner has been reported to judicial authorities for the illegal management of waste, including potentially hazardous materials.
In the Province of Caserta, provincial police seized a 6,500-square-meter area, including a 1,000-square-meter industrial warehouse, used for the accumulation of diverse waste materials. The inspection revealed asphalt scraps, demolition debris, and asbestos-containing artifacts. Additionally, officers found paint drums, combustion residues, and dismantled car parts. Technical assessments are underway to determine the exact nature of the substances and to plan necessary remediation efforts.
