Italian authorities seize over 136,000 litres of illegal fuel in Siena and Rome
The Guardia di Finanza, together with the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli, confiscated about 105,000 litres of irregular diesel in the province of Siena. The fuel was found to contain excessive water, inadequate denaturation for agricultural diesel and a flash‑point below safety standards. Two commercial oil depots and a road‑side distributor were inspected, and the case is now in the preliminary investigation stage.
In a separate operation near Rome, investigators seized roughly 31,000 litres of contraband gasoline intended for resale at below‑market prices. The vehicle, bearing a foreign licence plate, was stopped after an odour of hydrocarbons and irregularities in the seal were detected. Police also recovered more than €37,000 in cash and identified a Polish driver and the legal representative of the transport company for possible violations of excise‑tax and energy‑product regulations. Both seizures are being examined by the public prosecutor’s office.
