Italian automotive component industry faces crisis in 2025

The Italian automotive component industry experienced a significant downturn in 2025, according to the 2026 Observatory on Italian Automotive Components and Mobility Services. Data released by the Turin Chamber of Commerce and ANFIA reveals that the sector's 2,110 companies saw turnover drop by 3.0% to 53.5 billion euros, while employment fell by 2.3%, resulting in a loss of nearly 4,000 jobs.

The decline is attributed to a 19.9% collapse in national vehicle production, which fell to approximately 473,000 units. Other contributing factors include market instability, the energy transition, and increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers, who now account for over one-third of global vehicle production.

While the Piedmont region remains Italy's primary automotive hub—hosting 34.8% of national companies and generating 18.8 billion euros in revenue—it was hit harder than the national average, with regional revenues falling 4.6% and employment dropping 3.5%. The only segment showing growth was motorsport specialists, which saw a 4.2% increase in revenue and a 1.4% increase in staff.
